Satisfaction Survey for Inflatable Penile Implant (SSIPI)

Purpose and Primary Use

The Satisfaction Survey for Inflatable Penile Implant (SSIPI) is a validated patient-reported outcome (PRO) tool specifically developed to measure patient satisfaction following inflatable penile implant (IPP) surgery. As detailed in the validation studies by Salter et al. (2021) and Letwin et al. (2022), its primary purpose is to provide a standardized method for clinicians to gather comprehensive feedback on the patient's post-operative experience. The survey assesses key domains, including overall satisfaction, confidence, pain or discomfort, device appearance (e.g., naturalness, length, girth), and function (e.g., ease of use, reliability).

Clinical Workflow

This survey is intended for administration during post-operative follow-up visits, typically after the patient has had adequate time to heal and use the device. The 16 questions are divided into four main categories: Overall Satisfaction, Pain, Appearance, and Function. The resulting scores offer clinicians valuable insights into specific areas of patient satisfaction and concern. This feedback can be used to facilitate targeted discussions, provide additional patient education on device use, and address any issues to improve overall outcomes.

Scoring

Each of the 16 questions is scored on a 5-point scale, with responses assigned a value from 1 to 5. A higher score consistently indicates a more positive experience or greater satisfaction. The total SSIPI score is the sum of all question scores, ranging from 16 to 80. Additionally, sub-scores are calculated for each domain:

• Overall Satisfaction (Questions 1-4): Score range of 4-20
• Pain (Questions 5-6): Score range of 2-10
• Appearance (Questions 7-12): Score range of 6-30
• Function (Questions 13-16): Score range of 4-20

Limitations

The SSIPI is a subjective measure of a patient's personal experience and satisfaction. The results should be interpreted within the context of the individual's clinical history, pre-operative expectations, and counseling. It is not designed to measure objective clinical outcomes like mechanical device reliability or penile rigidity. Patient satisfaction can also be influenced by external factors not covered in this survey, such as partner satisfaction or other psychosocial elements.
